Bonjour!
Villa France sur Mer overlooks Bay of VIlle France and Bay of Beaulieu. The port was created in1295 and the town has a medieval feel. It has an Italian flare with soft orange buildings, narrow steep streets sloping towards the sea. There is a distinctive Church and Bell Tower in the center. There were few people in the Old VIlle in January. It was a warm day and several people were sunning themselves and walking along the port and beach. Very similar to Beaulieu with Villas built into the side of the Cliffs. Tina Turner has a palatial Villa here and visits about once per month. Villa France sur Mer is about 15 minutes by bus 100 from Nice.
The tourist information told me to take bus 81 to St. Jean Cap Ferret however I decided to walk for my viewing pleasure and I am glad I did. It was simply beautiful and an easy walk of about 30 minutes to Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a splendid VIlla built by Beatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild for her winter residence from 1912. It has a spectacular setting with exceptional views of the Riviera. It absolutely takes your breath away. The Villa is surrounded by magnificent gardens with various themes- French, Japanese and Spanish themes. The Villa houses superb works of art, tapestries and splendid furnishing.
There is an audio tour which last 1.5 hrs, an IPad and IPhone application which can be downloaded.
Go early in the day to allow ample time to tour the garden.
There is no photography allowed in the Villa. Photos can be viewed at villa-Ephrussi.com
