Granada, Spain-the Alhambra

Granada I was named a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1984. it is located at the foot of Suerra Nevada Mountains in Andalucia. It is best known for the Alhambra, a grand hilltop fortress wth Rotal palaces, serene patios, reflecting pools and gardens from the Nasrid dynasty.
It dates to 5500 BC.

The Alhambra rises up on the banks of the River Darro protected by mountains and surrounded by woods. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royality and the court of Granada in the 13th century after the establishment of the Basdrid Kingdom.
Throughout the 13th,14th and 15th centuries the fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers. The complex of monuments also has an independent palace, opposite the Alhambra, surrounded by orchards and gardens: the General life.

Reasons to visit: History, beautiful architecture dating to BC, gardens.

Tickets for the Alhambra should be bought at least 3 weeks in advance.
I arranged a tour through Viator which was well worth it. They partnered with Granavision. The guide was Enrique and very knowledgeable.

EZE

EZE is an ancient medieval village perched on a narrow rocky peak overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The bus ascends via the Moyenne Cornish to the village and provides the most spectacular views of the Riviera. Arriving to the entry to the medieval village is a lovely square with a few cafes and a view of the mountain. The tourist office is located here for a map of the village.
The walk is all uphill however is not strenuous. You will wind through very well restored winding streets with medieval buildings. There are artists shops, souvenir shops and restaurants along the way in beautiful picturesque settings.

The vistas are a photographers dream. Brassai spent the last years of his life here photographing the landscapes. The old buildings and narrow streets  wind their way upward to the Jardin Exotique Panorama. From the top of the garden at 1407 feet, the view is absolutely stunning. From the top there is a wonderful view to St. Topaz and on a clear day, you can even see Corsica.

Many trails scattered in nature connect the three levels of the town. The most famous is, the path of Nietzsche which inspired the philosopher to write his famous novel " Thus spoke Zarathustra". A very steep rocky path although there were a few brave souls climbing to the top.
Sculptures of Jean Phillippe Richard are arranged along the trails.

Day 1 Nice, France

Started the day picking up a few essentials. I wonder how many times I can climb the four flights of stairs to my apartnent? I made it twice today! Each time is a little easier.

Then stopped for Socca for breakfast.
After browsing in a few shops, walked to the Port and then along the Promenade.
Lovely day for a walk. 70 degrees and sunny, although too windy to sit near the water.

            Nice, Port

Both sides of the Port are lined with cafes.
I ate at Le Lunai. The mozzarella salad was quite good.

        Promenade des Anglais

            Bar overlooking the Promenade.
